The scent of fall is in the air, and the time is right for riding. Life is good. We've adopted a flock of chickens, who now reside in an old horse trailer fitted as a chicken coop. "The girls" and their two roosters can be seen scratching for insects in the paddocks. The popular Holger Bechtloff dressage clinics continue through November. For clinic dates and more on Holger, see our Calendar page.
From May 17, 2008 to January 4, 2009, the American Museum of Natural History in New York City is showcasing an exhibition entitled "The Horse," which reveals the fascinating story of the enduring bond between horses and humans and explores the origins of the horse family, which extends back more than 50 million years. Over the course of history, we have preyed upon horses, domesticated them, and shaped them into the "animated machinery" that helped create the modern world. Highlights of the exhibition include a hand-painted diorama, spectacular fossils, cultural artifacts, interactive stations, and more. Learn how we have shaped the horse and how the horse, in turn, has shaped us. Go to our links page to find more information about this exhibit.

Riding fun for all ages at Frog Hollow Farm.

Welcome to Frog Hollow Farm, 135 acres nestled in the hills overlooking the Hudson River between Kingston and New Paltz, New York. Riding and caring for horses in this special place connects us to the natural world in a life increasingly dominated by technology.
At Frog Hollow, we believe that learning to ride and learning to care for horses stretches our minds, our bodies and our spirits. Riding develops life-long skills such as the ability to organize, to think critically, to set goals and to carry them out. And, by partnering with another living being, we learn empathy.
Founded in 1976, Frog Hollow Farm emphasizes dressage both as a discipline in itself and as an excellent cross-training activity for rider and horse. We also prepare students for the hunter and jumper ring and for eventing - an Olympic sport ridden over 3 days that includes dressage, cross-country jumping and stadium jumping.
We welcome adult and child beginners, as well as experienced riders who want to hone their skills. Although many of our students choose to compete, our emphasis is on creating a harmonious relationship between rider and horse and on teaching our riders to be all-around competent horse people.
We maintain a variety of school horses from a 4th level dressage schoolmaster to unflappable ponies and horses who are kind and generous to children and adult beginners.
Our facilities include eight miles of groomed, wooded trails, a solar heated indoor ring with mirrors, a round pen and a gorgeous outdoor ring where shows can be held. Our two barns are clean, airy and light and are maintained to the highest standards.
Boarders can expect impeccable horse care. A staff person lives in the barn apartment and does nightly checks. Every horse is groomed on a daily basis. Blankets are kept clean and repaired. We have fields and paddocks for turnout, and horses can stay out for the entire day.
